Wall rendering done correctly can save money on repainting
Nu-Trend is renovating a bathroom in Alexandria at the moment and the owner is also getting their kitchen done at the same time. Our focus is on the bathroom but the walls are shared between this and the kitchen. Our team we prepared the exterior wall rendering to be ready for painting.
The other renovation company had completed the demolition work in the kitchen and then needed to render the walls. The other company also tried to correct their render patching with top coat plaster that was a completely different textured finish to what was currently there. There was a sand and cement sponge finish that has a gritty rough look when painted but then the acrylic top coat is shiny and smooth with no grain at all.
We had to complete some electrical work which involved chasing the wiring and some more wall rendering however the Nu-Trend team was ready for a light sand and paint given the quality of our wall rendering mixture being spot on to match correctly.
What the other company decided to do though was a ‘favour’ and go over our wall patches with a top coat plaster that completely ruined our patching work and the entire wall.
How to fix wall rendering not done correctly?
Fixing wall rendering will depend on the size of the wall, the room & how bad the rendering is in the first place. For this renovation project the labour to fix the issue will cost over $2,000 because we will have to re skim coat the entire wall to blend in the rough surface so that when it’s painted it looks like the rest of the house again.
By not ensuring the wall rendering was done correctly it is going to cost more money re-painting the house.
How can this type of situation be avoided?
This is a difficult situation for property owners but it does show that you get what you pay for when you are choosing renovation contractors. Nu-Trend is typically slightly more expensive than other renovation contractors but it is these little details like wall rendering during a renovation project that we pay attention to so that you get a high quality finish.
Nu-Trend only works with selected trades that we believe are the best in Sydney for things like tiling, painting, rendering. This avoids renovation problems for any project.
What is wall rendering?
Wall rendering is typically the process of adhering a mixture of wet cement and sand to a wall with a trowel. Rendering gives the wall a solid cement look and can be used to cover up the existing wall material. In most cases people know wall rendering when it is used on external surfaces.
The basic difference between plastering and rendering is that plastering is carried out on interior surfaces while rendering is undertaken on exterior house surfaces. The difference between plastering and rendering comes down to the combination and type of materials that are used.
For interior surfaces, wall rendering is done to smooth over various surfaces or wall materials to get it ready for painting.
Here are some of our recent bathroom renovations in Sydney that Nu-Trend has completed. The majority of the projects we are contracted for are complete bathroom renovations where the room is completely stripped so that the flooring, walls, tiling and waterproofing is installed brand new.
