Nu Trend was contracted as a bathroom renovator in the suburb of Haberfield, Sydney to provide a complete bathroom renovation to make a very old bathroom feel more modern. The old bathroom is located on the ground floor of the home and the owner was an electrician by trade, so they did all the demolish work themselves.
The owner had come up with their own design, had chosen their tap fittings, tiling, vanity and toilet so they needed a renovation contractor like Nu-Trend to build their new bathroom.

It is very easy to design your own bathroom by using the free online tools that are provided by companies like Reece. You don’t have to pay someone to do your bathroom design because the online tools let you add your room dimensions then begin placing items in the room like your toilet, shower, bath or vanity. The Reece software lets you choose actual products they sell, so when you place them in the room they are the right size and it creates a shopping list once you are finished.
Once the owner completed their designed they gave us the 3D and 2D drawings to work with and this meant our team could check that everything was complaint to Australian Standards and begin building the new bathroom for the owner.
Following this process means there are no mistakes and the owner as well as the contractors chosen know exactly where everything needs to be installed.
Can you conceal your toilet in an existing bathroom layout?
One of the design elements that needed to be incorporated into this bathroom layout was a concealed toilet cistern. Rather than taking sections of the existing brick wall out we were able to come up with a solution to build a nib wall in the existing room to conceal the plumbing required.
Sometimes there is a trade off between the ‘ideal’ way to renovate vs what is cost effective. In this case, removing a portion of the wall would have required building or engineering approvals to maintain the structural integrity of the wall. Being an older home this may have also cost more to ensure the right bracing was in place of any bricks that were removed.
Installing the nib wall is a simpler solution that achieves the same outcome, it could have even been possible to extend this across the whole bathroom wall to create a more streamlined look.
Once the nib wall was installed we also adjusted the plumbing to suit, we use the latest laser alignment tools to ensure everything will fit perfectly. This ensures that when we install a vanity, toilet or taps everything is installed perfectly.

This is the modern way of installing a vanity in a bathroom. Wall hung vanities create an illusion of space because you can see the flooring and it ‘floats’ in the room making it feel larger than it is.
