Nu Trend was contracted as a bathroom renovator in the suburb of Monterey, Sydney by a home owner that wanted to get a complete master bathroom renovation which also required making the room larger.

Getting a bathroom renovated to make it bigger
The bathroom floor plan layout design brief
This old bathroom had an unusual shape with a large space protruding into the room which was used as an external linen cupboard in the hallway. The other element that made the bathroom feel smaller was the shower which had a knee height nib wall and really heavy, thick frame surround. It felt cramped and with the tiny window it didn’t get a lot of light. You can see this in the floor plan drawing pictured above.
As you walked into the bathroom you would immediately face the vanity and the space between that and the shower was very narrow with space under the window that wasn’t getting utilised very well. The new layout included the use of the space from the old linen cupboard which made the room rectangular in shape and therefore much easier to work with.
By retaining the existing window we didn’t have to make any other changes to the other walls but by removing the old combo bath/shower to install a new walk in design, moving the vanity to the opposite wall and bringing the toilet closer to the wall it would mean there was a lot of open space to move around the room and for plenty of light to bounce around too.
